Description of the accommodation:
Hollófészek Vendégház (Raven's Nest Guest House) is located towards the top of Mount Badacsony, overlooked by the basalt cliffs, with great views both towards the mountain and on Lake Balaton. The guest house is situated in the middle of a green area with the forest right behind it, offering cool breezes even in the summer. The former winecellar that is already shown on an Austrian military map from 1858, was completely rebuilt by 2021 and is suitable for families or parties who like nature, adventure and quiet surroundings. There are three beds in the attick and two on the ground floor, where the living room has a large fireplace. Two extra beds can be added upon request, one in the living room and one in the attick. The entrance area has a fully equipped kitchen and an arched cellar serves as the dining room. Construction of an open-air kitchen is in process. The bathroom with shower is located in the side building and water is supplied from tanks, so please use water responsibly. Some earthworks will still take place during 2021 o we are offering accommodation at reduced prices this year. Ravens nest on the cliffs about our guest house, hence the name of the property.
The owners are full time employed locals who have run the NOHAB Apartment in the village of Badacsonytördemic since 2012. This is their second guest house that they had been rebuilding for years, before construction ended in 2021. Because of their standard job, cleaning can only take place at week-ends. Therefore, Hollófészek Guesthouse can only be booked with arrival and departure taking place on Saturdays or Sundays.
Hollófészek Vendégház is located amidst some vineyards (which may be worked on at the time of your stay) on Mount Badacsony, located in the Balaton Highlands National Park. The forest on site is a Natura 2000 area. A tricky road leads to the guest house which is mostly single-lane and has some steep sections, so backing up may occasionally required if you meet oncoming traffic. The road becomes a dirt road towards the end. The steep sections may be slippery when wet. There is no water pipe to the guest house so water is carried uphill by truck. Mount Badacsony is mostly known for its wineyards and wine cellars, which offer excellent white wines. Best known are the Hungarian Riesling, the Pinot Gris which often yields semi-sweet wine, and the Kéknyelű (Blue Stem) that is a grape tyoe specific to this area. The mountain is frequented by hikers and a trail goes to the lookout tower on top, while another circles the mountain. A third trail leads to the beach in Badacsonylábdihegy, which is 20-25 minutes walk away (more when climbing back). The national blue trail approaches from the village and railway station of Badacsonytördemic, which has a shop, ice cream place and two wineries.
